Meghalaya Foundation Day 2021: History

The northeastern region of india, formed on January 21, 1972, has been carved out by two districts, Assam, the Garo hills and the United Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills. It became a full-fledged state under the Northeastern Region (Re-Orgainstaaion) act 1971.

Meghalaya, the word stands for itself- A land of clouds, the abode of clouds, and shares its borders with the other neighbouring seven sister states of india, such as Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, and Tripura.

Meghalaya Foundation Day 2021: Significance

With covering 22,430 square kilometres area, Meghalaya is one of the beautiful states of india, with environmental wonders and beauty surrounding it.

Also, it is the wettest region of the country with around 70% of state covered in forests and the main languages spoken here are Khasi, Garo, Pnar, and English. As the celebrations are being underway today, they would be done on a low scale keeping in mind the pandemic.
