MGR-Sivaji’ ‘Koondukili’ star Kusalakumari passes away

Chennai: Veteran actress Kusalakumari passed away on Wednesday morning due to age-related illness. She was 83 years old.

Kuchalakumari has the rare distinction of playing one of the lead roles in ‘Koondukili’, which is the only movie in which the giants of Tamil film industry MGR and Sivaji Ganesan acted together.

She went on to act in multiple Telugu and Malayalam movies with various superstars including A.Nageshwara Rao and Prem Nazir.

Kusalakumari chose not to marry and was living with her brother. In 2015 when was brought to the knowledge of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalitha, that she was under severe poverty, the politician in no time sanctioned an amount of rupees five thousand monthly to her.

Kusalakumari’s noted films in Tamil are ‘Parasakthi’, ‘Konjum Salangai’ and ‘Harichandra’.
