In a bid to train over 42 lakh teachers, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) will launch the world’s biggest teacher training programme next week.

“On August 22, the MHRD will launch the world’s biggest project for teacher training called NISHTHA (National Initiative on School Teachers Head Holistic Advancement), under which more than 42 lakh teachers will be trained,” Rina Ray, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD, said.

While the teacher training programme has been named as NISHTHA i.e. National Initiative on School Teachers Head Holistic Advancement, around 19,000 teacher-training institutes across the country were mapped and put on Google Earth.

The National Policy on Education, framed in 1986 and modified in 1992, has seen several changes. It calls for a revision of the Policy.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, formerly Ministry of Education, is responsible for the development of human resources in India.
