Thane: The police have filed an FIR against 3 MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) workers for assaulting a BJP worker over a WhatsApp forward. In the post, a laughing cartoon face poking fun at a statement by Raj Thackeray was featured.
As per the police complaint, BJP worker Pradeep Rane’s thrashing video was recorded and was even aired on a local channel.
According to the police, the complainant received a post on WhatsApp on Sunday with MNS president Raj Thackeray’s statement that he was not for sale along with his picture and a sketch of a man laughing and asking what was the need to buy when something was available for hire.
After which he forwarded the post to some other people on the platform and it went viral in the Virandavan locality. The MNS workers noticed it and felt offended, said a police official.
The MNS workers then went to Rane’s home around 4 pm and asked him about the post. They also abused and thrashed him.
The police official said quoting the complaint, the complainant has apologized for the post but they were not satisfied and they filmed the apology and the bashing and also made it viral by airing it on a local channel.
A case was registered against the three MNS men under section 452, section 323, section 504 and section 500 of the IPC.
