Mothagaon Overbridge expansion

Mothagaon Overbridge Expansion: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has decided to make the Mothagaon rail overbridge much bigger than planned. The bridge, which was earlier designed for two lanes, will now have four lanes to handle the growing traffic in the area. The change comes after many complaints and requests from people who struggle with long traffic jams every day.

Officials said the new four-lane bridge will help thousands of people who travel between Dombivli and Thane every day. Once the work is done, the travel time on this route will drop from nearly one hour to just 25 minutes especially for those using the Mankoli flyover.

Project Cost

The new overbridge is expected to cost around Rs 170 crore and will be built together with the Railways, according to officials quoted by the Times of India. The KDMC has already sent the final proposal to the state government for funding approval, and the funds are likely to be cleared soon.

Former Sena (UBT) corporator Dipesh Mhatre said that local people had been demanding a bigger bridge for a long time because of the increasing number of vehicles in the region. He said the expansion is a good move that will help Dombivli’s growing population and improve future traffic conditions.

Compensation For Affected Families

Mhatre also mentioned that many homes will be affected by the project. The KDMC has kept aside Rs 68 crore to compensate nearly 600 families and individuals who will lose their land or property.

He said, “This is the first time KDMC is offering compensation of this scale. Earlier, those affected by civic projects were only given transfer of development rights (TDR).”

When the state government gives its final approval, the bridge work will start soon after. The new structure is expected to greatly improve connectivity between Dombivli and Thane and cut down travel time to 25 minutes. The project will bring big relief to people tired of long jams and will make movement between both cities much easier.
