MTV VMAS 2023: The Prudential Centre in Newark rang with applause as music’s biggest personalities took the stage to celebrate their chart-topping achievements. Stray Kids, TXT, BLACKPINK, and Jungkook of BTS all won a Moon Person award this year, along with other K-pop acts. A glimpse at what transpired at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
The K-pop industry has witnessed a number of firsts over the past few years. Despite the widespread influence of Hallyu and the immense prominence of groups like BTS and BLACKPINK, a K-pop category did not debut on a major US music award show (AMAs) until last year. In addition, on 28 October 2022, Billboard hosted a first-of-its-kind event. In February of this year, girl group TWICE was dubbed the first Korean recipient of a Billboard Women in Music Award.
