The wait for the Aprilia SXR160 finally ended as the Italian company, Piaggio launched the maxi-styled scooter in India at Rs 1.26 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). Aprilia is the India-specific maxi-scooter that was first displayed in February 2020 at the Auto Expo. It is based on the same platform as the SR160.
The SXR160 is Rs 23,000 costlier than the base model of the SR160. Bookings for the scooter have commenced for the small amount of Rs 5,000. Deliveries are expected to start in the first couple of weeks of 2021.

Aprilia SXR 160: Design and Features
The Aprilia SXR 160 looks sharp and features a full- LED headlight, LED DRLs, LED taillight, a tall windscreen, a digital instrument console, a plush seat, and a stretched-out floorboard. It has a very sporty look for a maxi-scooter. Matt black design trims along with dark chrome elements work with that premium look in the new SXR 160.
The scooter features a long comfy seat, a spacious footboard, a front luggage hook, and a glove box. The digital instrument cluster offers readouts like speed, tachometer, odometer, average, and top speed, fuel gauge, engine malfunction indicator, ABS indicator, etc. SXR 160 also offers extra storage in the front apron and a mobile charging port in case your smartphone runs out of battery.

Powering the SXR 160 is a 160 cc, air-cooled, BS6 compliant single-cylinder engine that puts out 11 bhp at 7,100 rpm and 12 Nm of peak torque.
Aprilia SXR 160: Suspension and Braking
The scooter uses a telescopic fork, mono-shock, and disc brake at both ends coupled with single-channel ABS. Unlike the Aprilia SR 160 that rides on 14-inch wheels, the SXR 160 uses 12-inch wheels which increase the under-seat storage space.

Aprilia SXR 160: Counterparts
This segment is largely unexplored by the scooter companies. But the closest alternative to SXR 160 is Suzuki Burgman Street BS6. Other bikes that come to mind are Vespa SXL 150, Vespa Elegante 150 & Vespa Elegante 125. Another bike similar to SXR 160 is TVS Creon which is to be launch in March 2021 in India.
