Mumbai police arrests Republic TV's Assistant VP in Fake TRP scam

Republic Media Network’s Assistant Vice President Mr Ghanshyam Singh was arrested this morning at 7:40 am by the Mumbai Police in the fake TRP scam.

Ghanshyam has been booked under frivolous sections in a fake TRP manipulation case. Also to be noted, Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami was arrested in a 2018 suicide abetment case and is currently serving  7th day in judicial custody.

On October 8, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said a TRP racket had been busted by the Crime Branch. The scam involved Republic TV, Box Cinema and Fakt Marathi. He had said, “In the preliminary enquiry, one person was arrested and he has revealed that he had been working for a company called Hansa Research Group Private Limited.”

The accused had said the company had misused confidential data that had been entrusted to them. The action was undertaken for wrongful gains of various TV channels which resulted in a loss to various advertisers and their agencies, he stated.

The company and Mr. Goswami have been charged under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The petition also seeks a stay on the investigation, and restraining the State; Station House Officer of Kandivali police station; Crime Intelligent Unit; and Commissioner of Police (CP) Param Bir Singh from taking any coercive steps. It also urges the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
