FIR registered against Arnab Goswami at Mumbai's Pydhonie police station

A fresh FIR has been registered against Republic Media Network’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami after Mumbai police received a complaint stating that he tried to create hatred against Muslims last month. The complaint was filed by Irfan Abubakar Shaikh, secretary of Raza Educational Welfare Society.

Shaikh, a resident of Null Bazar in South Mumbai, in his complaint alleged that both the channel and Goswami were trying to create hatred against the Muslim community and targeted a mosque in Bandra that had no link to the protest by migrants on April 14, reported Hindustan Times.

“There was no link or issue related to the mosque near the Bandra station. The only issue was that the migrants had gathered in the open space near the mosque. But Arnab purposely highlighted the mosque to create communal disturbance in the city,” Shaikh said in his compliant to the police.

The FIR has been registered days after the journalist was grilled for 12 hours by Mumbai Police. He was summoned by the Mumbai Police for questioning over his comments on top Congress leaders in connection with the lynching of three persons — including two Sadhus — in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on April 16.

Earlier, Goswami was attacked by two motorcycle-borne persons who allegedly tried to break its glass window when he was on their way home with wife Samyabrata Ray, an Editor with Republic TV.

Republic TV has expressed its “deep disappointment” that despite Goswami’s requests, the alleged attackers were released on a bail of Rs 15,000 by a Mumbai court.

It termed the attack on Goswami as “a pre-planned Congress conspiracy” and alleged that “the police have flatly refused to register either a case of assault or conspiracy”.
