Commuters soon will travel in AC local trains in Mumbai in the next few months. Following a successful trial in the Kurla car-shed, railway officials are now planning to take the trails onto the main railways tracks.

Starting from the first week of December, the trials will be on for three months. Notably, the railways faced several issues during the static trials at the Kurla car-shed. However, it successfully managed to complete the trial runs.

There were reports that the railways conducted 19 trial runs in the car-shed, after dealing with some of the initial technical issues. As per sources, the railways are working on local tests on tracks and but are yet to decide the exact spot and time.

The main concern during the AC local trials on the main tracks will be to ensure that the normal Central Railway suburban train services remain unaffected, said sources. It’s been around seven months since the ₹ 54 crore AC local trains arrived in Mumbai.

AC Trains specifications:

  1. Each compartment can accommodate 1,028 people, with extra capacity of 4,936 standees
  2. There will be a GPS-based address system
  3. Each train will be divided into two interconnected sets of six coaches
  4. The train’s body will be made of stainless steel
