On Thursday, Mumbai finally saw some respite with public transports resuming their service. Heavy rainfall in the city decreased after making a record rainfall for July on Tuesday.

As per the Disaster Management Unit (DMU) weather bulletin, the city would witness moderate rains during the day and will witness high tide at 1.20 PM on Thursday and on the same day, low tide will also be witnessed at 7.21 PM.

The locals have been warned to not to visit anywhere close to the beaches during the high tide timings.

As per the weather website, Mumbai will witness three tides on Thursday, one will be a high tide and the other two are the low tides.

A high tide of 4.87m (15.98ft) is set to hit Mumbai at 1.17 PM on Thursday on the other hand, the two low tides, one of 0.16 m (0.52 ft) and the other of 1.37m (4.49 ft) will hit the city at 6.27 pm and 7.24 pm respectively.

To those unaware, High tides occur due to gravitational pull between the earth and the moon.

On Tuesday Mumbai received 375.2 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours which is the highest since July 26, 2005 deluge in Mumbai. The heavy rainfall has hit Mumbai in the last three days leading to heavy traffic jams, water logging and cancellation of buses, trains, and flights.

A private weather agency has also said that Mumbai is at serious risk of flooding between July 3 to July 5. It said in a statement “Close to 200 mm or more rain per day is likely during this period, which could hamper normal life.”
