In an incident that took place in a local train in Thane, a woman gave birth to her child after she experienced labour pain while travelling from Ambivli station to Kurla. She was accompanied by one of her relatives.
The woman Ishrat Sheikh boarded the fast local train to go to a hospital in Kurla but amid the journey, she experienced labour pain after which the railway police was informed about the happening.
The railway police told a national daily that they arranged a stretcher and called medical help from the emergency medical room. These emergency medical rooms are known as ‘one-rupee clinics’. After making all necessary arrangements, the medical staff and the railway police went to platform number six and took the patient to the clinic. The clinic was situated at platform number two.
The in-charge of the one-rupee clinic, Dr Rahul Ghule said that the baby was delivered around 6.30 pm and both, the mother and the child were safe.
They were then shifted to the Thane Civil Hospital for better treatment. Ghule also added that this was the third successful delivery conducted by the Thane one-rupee clinic. While talking to a news agency, the doctor thanked the railway authorities for their support in running the clinics.
A similar incident happened on March 4 from Kolkata where a woman gave birth to her baby in a train. The woman was travelling from the Agartala-Habibgaunj Express when she experienced labour pain. The patients on the train helped her in delivering the baby.
