People on Twitter began sharing stories of horrific incidents, the times they got away with, due to their ‘White Privilege’. The trend which began on Saturday in the United States, seems to have garnered more momentum as it is now in the top five trending global topics.
The hashtag looks to have been picked up when user @Freeyourmindkid asked “White people” about the most outrageous thing they’ve gotten away with as a white person which a black or brown person would have never gotten away with?
White people – What is the most outrageous thing that you’ve gotten away with as a white person that you know damn well a black or brown person would have never gotten away with?#MyWhitePrivilege

Here is a collection of some of those tweets.
In 1997 I shot a preacher in the back and got away with it. He begged for mercy but I just laughed and watched him die. #mywhiteprivilege

Not really outrageous, but I had chronic headaches (later diagnosed w/ a brain tumor) and not once did a doctor think I was faking it. A friend of mine who is a black man was left screaming in agony with kidney stones because they thought he was seeking drugs. #MyWhitePrivilege

I got pulled over for going 85 in a 25 while texting and drinking whiskey out of a gallon jug and the cop apologized when he saw that I was white and offered me a coupon to Arby’s as a token of regret. I slapped him and said “be gone.” He cried and walked away. #MyWhitePrivilege

pulled over for a burned-out taillight. never once did it occur to me to think about where my hands were, or how fast I went for my wallet. by the end of the encounter, the state trooper and I were both standing by the side of my car, cracking jokes. and that is #MyWhitePrivilege

One time I was in a long line at CVS and they opened up a new line and I went from 8th in line to 3rd in line. #mywhiteprivilege

Purchased pants w/ security tag hidden in pocket, hardly noticeable, they forgot to remove. Took me about 2 months of wearing it before I noticed. I was in & out of stores setting off sensors dozens of times – never stoped once, would just get a wave & a smile #MyWhitePrivilege
