Bengaluru, July 12, 2024 – Moving Tech, the operator of community-led mobility apps including Namma Yatri, Yatri Sathi, Yatri, and Mana Yatri, has successfully raised $11 million (approximately Rs 92 crore) in a pre-Series A funding round. Key investors include Blume Ventures, Antler, Google, and others. This marks the first venture funding for the Bengaluru-based company.
Vision and Investment Focus
Namma Yatri plans to utilize the funds to enhance technology, research and development (R&D), and product innovations. The company aims to empower drivers, integrate public transport, and improve customer convenience through its direct-to-driver and multimodal transportation models. This approach is expected to increase driver earnings while providing reliable, affordable, seamless, and sustainable mobility solutions.
Strategic Moves and Leadership
In April, payments firm Juspay spun off its ride-hailing subsidiary, Namma Yatri, into a separate entity called Moving Tech Innovations Limited. The new entity is led by Juspay’s Chief Growth Officer Shan M S and Chief Product Officer Magizhan Selvan. Launched in Bengaluru in 2022, Namma Yatri and its family of apps are fully open-source, featuring open data metrics and integration with the ONDC Network.
Community and Technological Impact
“With our people-first approach, our goal is to build empathetic products and tech that are 10x better. By collaborating with Samaaj (Community), Sarkar (Government), and Bazaar (Business), we aspire to create an impact similar to UPI in India and Linux worldwide,” stated Magizhan Selvan and Shan M S in a joint statement. The funding will enable further innovation and growth.
Market Presence and Expansion
With a user base of 7 million and 400,000 drivers, Moving Tech operates in 8 cities and towns and claims to have facilitated 46 million trips. Namma Yatri recently introduced zero-commission auto and cab rentals in Bengaluru and Chennai, with plans to expand the service to Delhi-NCR. This move positions Namma Yatri to compete with market leaders such as Ola, Rapido, and Uber, which have also launched zero-commission models for auto drivers.
Conclusion
The recent funding round is a significant milestone for Moving Tech and its suite of mobility apps. By focusing on technological advancements and community integration, Namma Yatri aims to revolutionize the mobility landscape in India, providing enhanced services to both drivers and passengers. The company’s innovative approach and strategic expansions are set to challenge established players and set new standards in the industry.
