Hours after the murder of Jitin Sahani, father of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani, in Darbhanga, Bihar police announced the formation of a special investigation team to probe the case. Police officials from the Birol Police station, including the SHO, promptly arrived at the scene.
In a statement, Darbhanga Police confirmed that the investigation team is led by the SP of Darbhanga Rural Police and includes the Birol SHO to ensure a speedy investigation. Senior officials are stationed at the incident site, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been summoned to gather scientific evidence.
The murder has led to a political confrontation, with RJD’s Mrityunjay Tiwari accusing the ruling JDU-BJP government of perpetuating a ‘Jungle-Raaj’. Tiwari questioned the silence of BJP and NDA leaders on the incident, deeming it a sign of insecurity for the common man in Bihar. In contrast, state government representatives criticized the opposition for politicizing the issue while assuring that the investigation would be thorough.
Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary emphasized that the government would ensure the accused are brought to justice. Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin highlighted the immediate formation of the SIT and noted that initial suspicions point to personal enmity or other significant motives.
The incident has attracted significant attention due to its political implications. Mukesh Sahani’s party recently aligned with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, adding a layer of political tension to the case.
