Artemis 2 Launch: Four astronauts chosen for NASA’s Artemis 2 mission have started quarantine, showing that the space agency believes the launch could happen soon. This mission will send humans around the moon for the first time in more than 50 years. The crew includes three Americans and one Canadian. They entered quarantine on Friday, January 23, in Texas, as NASA continues launch preparations in Florida.
Quarantine is a normal rule before any human space mission. It helps make sure astronauts do not get sick before launch. If even one astronaut falls ill, the mission could be delayed. During this time, the crew must stay away from public places. However, they are not fully cut off, their family members and close colleagues can still visit them if they follow strict health rules. The astronauts will also continue training, run practice missions, and complete medical checks.

Who is Flying on Artemis 2
The Artemis 2 crew includes NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch. The fourth crew member is Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency. They will stay in quarantine at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. About six days before launch, they are expected to travel to Kennedy Space Center in Florida, if all testing stays on schedule.
This mission is a major step for NASA. Artemis 2 is part of a large moon program that aims to send humans back to the moon after the Apollo missions ended in 1972. While Artemis 2 will not land on the moon, it will prepare the way for future missions that will.
Launch Window
NASA says the Space Launch System rocket could lift off as early as February 6 and as late as April 6 from Florida. The rocket will carry the Orion capsule with the four astronauts inside. NASA has not locked in an exact launch date yet. In a blog post dated January 23, the agency said, “beginning quarantine now preserves flexibility as teams work toward potential opportunities in the February launch period.”
Before a final date is chosen, NASA must complete a wet dress rehearsal. This test may happen as early as February 2. During the test, teams will practice a full launch countdown and load the rocket with about 700,000 gallons of fuel, then drain it again. NASA teams are also preparing recovery plans in the Pacific Ocean, where the astronauts will land after the mission ends.

The Artemis 2 mission will last about 10 days. The Orion capsule, built by Lockheed Martin, will fly around the moon and travel about 4,700 miles past its far side. This will take the astronauts farther into space than any humans have ever gone. The mission follows Artemis 1, which flew without a crew in November 2022.
