National Fajita Day 2023

National Fajita Day 2023: National Fajita Day is on August 18, so get that sirloin sizzling over an open flame. It is a day to commemorate the authentic flavour of the American Southwest with the flavour fiesta known as the fajita. Add some fantastic black beans, as well as some hot sauce, guacamole, sour cream, or cheddar. Combinations are limitless. National Fajita Day is today, so you know what you must do (consume fajitas, of course).

HISTORY OF NATIONAL FAJITA DAY

The fajita has taken the culinary world by storm and is a genuine manifestation of Tex-Mex culture, but it had very humble beginnings.

In the early 1930s, Mexican vaqueros in Texas created fajitas from scraps of sirloin as part of their remuneration for a job well done. Because of this, the workers learnt to utilise the tough cuts as efficiently as possible, particularly the flavorful skirt steak. The steak was traditionally prepared over an open fire or grill and served with flour or maize tortillas, pico de gallo, guacamole and southwestern spices. Soon, the inexpensive, efficient meal intended as a quick fix for employees found its way into the mouths and bellies of new residents.

Consequently, numerous restaurants that existed at the time assert that they were the originators of the fajita. Everyone desires to be a part of a success narrative, which is hardly surprising. In the late 1960s, Sonny Falcon first began selling fajitas. As recognition for his role in introducing fajitas to the general public, he was ultimately dubbed “The Fajita King”

In 1973, Ninfa’s restaurant created its own variant of fajitas, and in 1982, La Vista restaurant in Austin added “sizzling fajitas” to its menu. National Fajita Day was created by the restaurant chain On the Border in order to honour the mouth-watering dish. If all of this does not make your appetite water, we do not know what will.
