The Rhodesian Ridgeback, a descendant of Khoisan bushmen’s hunting dogs, was frequently used to pursue lions. In various societies, purebred canines were utilised for a variety of purposes. In Ancient Egypt, dogs were maintained by wealthy royals as a status symbol. The Romans bred their canines for combat. Kublai Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan, possessed and utilised 5,000 Tibetan Mastiffs for hunting and combat in the 13th century. This is the most dogs ever possessed by a single individual.
National Purebred Dog Day was created by writer Susi Szeremy in 2013 to promote responsible dog ownership and offer purebred dog owners a voice in the pet community. Szeremy believed that bred-for-purpose canines should be cherished and preserved. Education and awareness was one of the most effective methods to accomplish this.
