History and Significance of National Take Your Dog to Work Day

In the year 1996, the first celebration of National Take Your Dog to Work Day was held. The unofficial holiday was created by Pet Sitters International to encourage dog adoption and also to make people feel how having a pet bring happiness in their lives.  Pet Sitters International realized that a lot of people left their pets at home that are the reason this initiative was started to help them find good homes with love and respect. A number of businesses across the UK allowed dogs at the workplace since 2014.

This day is marked in Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Israel.

Apart from promoting pet and human interaction or adoption, this day also conducts certain programs which raise funds and are given to charity organizations. The adoption of dogs from local shelters, rescue groups and societies are promoted.
