Navrati 2023 Day 2: On the second day of Navrati, we honour Ma Brahmacharini.
Brahma is the supreme being, whereas Charini seeks the ultimate truth. She is the second incarnation of Durga, the Hindu goddess. She walks barefoot while holding a rosary and a kamandalu or water container. She is a wealth of knowledge and insight.

Goddess Parvati’s celibate form is Maa Brahmacharini. She took birth in the household of Daksha Prajapati in this avatar and was an excellent Sati. She rules over Lord Mangal, the source of all wealth. She walks barefoot and holds Jap Mala in her right hand and Kamandal in her left. According to Hindu scriptures, Goddess Brahmacharini performed severe penance in order to marry Lord Shiva. She slept on the floor and subsisted for years on a diet of Bilva foliage, flowers, fruits, and green vegetables. She also fasted while residing in the open during sweltering summers, severe winters, and violent downpours. She subsequently ceased consuming and continued her penance without food or water.
