Earlier this week, a video on social media went viral in no time bring large scale reactions from the public. The viral video showed a few young girls of Delhi asking a middle aged woman to apologise as the lady allegedly shamed the girls group in a restaurant and even asked seven men over there to ‘rape girls for wearing short dress’.

Netizens praised the victimised girls for standing up to the toxic mentality of the ‘Delhi Aunty’ they witnessed, and at the same time, came roughly in criticising the woman for her unacceptable words. However, the netizens called up for wrong woman, confusing her with the lady in the viral video because of the same name and quite similar looks.

The daughter of the woman being trolled after being mistaken for the woman who slut-shamed girls in Delhi took onto Facebook to pen down the problem. Parama Chakraborty shared a screengrab of her mother’s profile and a picture of the Delhi woman and clarified the case of mistaken identity.

Rape is a term that is often used frivolously by people, without understanding the weight that the word carries with it. It is disheartening that people believe that rape happens for a variety of reasons, reasons like short clothes, going out late at night, drinking with friends at a bar or going to isolated places.
