New leak suggests potential improvements to battery life in upcoming PS5 controller

According to a listing on the Best Buy Canada website, a new version of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller has been announced.

The entry, titled “PlayStation 5 V2 DualSense Wireless Controller – White,” is priced at $89 CAD, which is the same as the original controller. However, it is currently unavailable for purchase and no official release date has been set.

While the photos appear to be the same as the current DualSense, the listing boasts considerable internal changes. The haptic feedback, adjustable triggers, and microphone of the V2 model are believed to be retained, but with significant improvements.

The description touts a “charging station” with “easy click-in charging” and a “exceptional 12-hour battery life on a full charge,” which is a significant improvement over the existing controller’s 5-6 hours. This would considerably lessen the need for frequent recharge, especially for DualSense Edge controller users.

Because Sony hasn’t commented on the leak, it’s vital to proceed with caution. Best Buy may have made an error, or the listing may be incorrect.

However, reports of a PlayStation State of Play event this month have also surfaced, and the launch of a new DualSense model may fit right in.

PlayStation fans can only hope that the leak is real and that a more durable DualSense controller is on the way until we hear from Sony.

In other news, Sony has announced that nine new games will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra members on January 16th.
