Brazilian international and Paris Saint-Germain star winger Neymar Jr. celebrated his 27th birthday with a glittering party in Paris on Monday evening joined by family, Paris Saint-Germain teammates and a smattering of celebrities.
DJ Bob Sinclair, Brazilian singer Wesley Safadao and world surf champion Gabriel Medina were among the 200 guests at the fashionable Pavillon Gabriel near the Champs-Elysees.
In a tearful birthday speech in Paris on Sunday, injured Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has told friends and family that he wished he had “a new metatarsal.”
Injured Neymar got tears in his eyes while presenting a birthday speech in front of his friends and family and told them what he wanted as a birthday present. He said, “What I wanted the most as a birthday present today is a new metatarsal, so I could be on the field fighting and doing what I love the most, which is playing soccer.”
On January 23 while playing against Strasbourg in the round of 16 matchups in Coupe de France, the Brazil international hurt his right foot. Paris Saint-Germain confirmed that the playmaker will spend up to 10 weeks on the sidelines.
Neymar also revealed during his speech that initially, he was thinking about cancelling the celebration due to his injury, but after talking with friends he decided that it would be best to share a good time with his guests.
Neymar thanked his PSG teammates for their support and said, “It’s been very hard to be on crutches all this time. Every athlete knows how hard that is. They(teammates) are giving me all the strength possible to help me return as soon as possible.”
World’s most expensive footballer greeted his guests leaning on distinctive red crutches in keeping with the colour theme for the ‘Nuit Rouge (Red Night)’.
It is the second injury in as many years to Neymar’s fifth metatarsal in his right foot, and it has occurred at almost exactly the same point in consecutive seasons. Injured Neymar will miss both legs of Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester United with a metatarsal injury suffered last month.
