Air India 171 Ahmedabad Crash Probe: The investigation into the Air India 171 crash in Ahmedabad is still moving ahead, and the final answer has not been given yet. Recent reporting says the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, or AAIB, is still working through the case and that an interim report may come before the final one, even though earlier source-based reports said no interim report was likely. The crash happened on June 12, 2025, and it has stayed under close watch ever since.

The AAIB had already issued its preliminary report within the 30-day period used in aviation accident work under international norms. The government’s own press note said the bureau formed a multidisciplinary team on June 13, 2025, right after the accident, and that the final investigation report will be released after the inquiry is completed.

What Officials Are Saying

According to top Ministry of Civil Aviation sources quoted in the report, the team is still checking many technical and operational points tied to the crash. One source said, “Several factors are being worked upon by the concerned investigative agencies,”. The same reporting said the AAIB is working toward a full final report and is not rushing to close the case.

The ministry has also pushed back against the idea that the final report must be made public within a strict 12-month limit. Officials said ICAO Annex 13 expects a final report “as soon as possible” and preferably within 12 months, but major crash probes often take longer than that. One source said, “In case of major accidents, the average time taken to finalise and make the final report public has remained nearly 20-22 months. And the Air India 171 crash is a rare one,”.

Families Still Waiting for Answers

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has said the final report will come “soon”, while the ministry says it is not interfering with the probe. Officials want the report to be “conclusive, professional and scientific”. They say the families of the passengers and crew are still waiting for answers, and that the AAIB will make the final report public once the investigation is complete.
