Number of medical colleges: In the past nine years, the number of medical colleges in the country has doubled, and the government is establishing a critical care facility in every district, according to Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

Inaugurating a regional cancer facility at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Saturday, he stated that the number of MBBS seats in the country has increased from 50,000 in 2014 to the current total of 1,07,000.

In addition, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated a new undergraduate medical college, a new nursing college building, eight modular operation theatres, and other facilities.

Number of medical colleges doubled

”Over the past nine years, the number of medical colleges in the United States has multiplied. In India, 170,000 Health and Wellness Centres have been established. We are also constructing one intensive care unit in each of the nation’s districts,” he said while addressing a gathering.

In addition, he set the cornerstone for a 150-bed critical care wing at NEIGRIHMS.

”The new NEIGRIHMS facilities will provide much-needed healthcare services to northeastern residents. “The federal government is committed to improving the region’s health infrastructure,” he said.

“We intend to establish NEIGRIHMS as an institution of national significance,” Mandaviya stated.

He added that while other countries have a three-tiered health care system, India has a four-tiered system consisting of ASHA, primary, secondary, and tertiary services.
