A groom from Sundargarh went to Sambalpur to get married, but the girl called off the wedding when the groom asked for mutton for baraatis.

The strange thing was said to have happened at the bride’s home in the Dhama area of the Sambalpur district. The man getting married is from Sambalpur.

According to OdishaTV report, the groom, who works as a banker for a government-run bank, led a procession with baraatis to the bride’s home in Ainthapali, Sambalpur, on Sunday. During the feast, there wasn’t enough meat to serve the last seven or eight baraatis the same way.

was already late at night, and the bride’s family said they couldn’t do anything to get meat ready at that time. But the baraati’s need for meat quickly became a big problem. Because of how the baraatis were acting, the bride chose not to go through with the wedding.

When the bride talked about what happened, she said, “Everything was in place. Even the lamb was on the menu. But before the last six or seven people could eat, it was gone. Then they started fighting with my dad, accusing him of bad management.”

“My parents and other family members told them to be quiet and tried to make them happy by giving them chicken and fish instead of mutton,” the bride said. “But they were adamant that they wanted mutton and started acting badly towards us.”

“My father even got down on his knees and begged them, but they didn’t care. I thought it was wrong, so I told them to leave without getting married,” she said.

In the tribal-dominated Kandhamal district, a similar situation made news recently when a bride left the home of her in-laws after her husband asked for a two-wheeler as dowry.
