Odisha: Two Men arrested in Berhampur for spreading misinformation about COVID19

Behrampur: Two persons have been taken into custody in Odisha’s Berhampur for allegedly spreading misinformation about coronavirus in Badabazar area. The accused have been identified as Subash Chandra Sahu (43) and Sudhakar Sahu (41), residents of Jaura Sahi.

The police sources stated, the two were spreading false information regarding COVID-19 among shopkeepers in Badabazar and were creating unnecessary havoc in the region.

A case has been registered against the two under sections 107 and 113 of CrPC. In a similar incident, a youth of Badasingada village under Vikrampur police limits in Angul district was last night arrested for allegedly spreading misinformation on coronavirus.

The first confirmed COVID19 patient from Odisha was confirmed on last Tuesday. Giving details of the Odisha case, an official in Bhubaneswar said a researcher who recently returned from Italy tested positive for the coronavirus, which according to the WHO has infected 1,53,517 people in 135 countries and claimed more than 5,700 lives.

The 33-year-old patient who reached Delhi from Italy on March 6 and travelled to Bhubaneswar by train on March 12 is being treated at the Capital Hospital in the Odisha capital.
