Attendance requirement for Bihar board exams: Tuesday, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) stated that recent circulars regarding minimum attendance requirements for classes 9, 10, 11, and 12 have left some individuals confused.

For the Intermediate (Class 12) final exam, a minimum of 75% attendance in both classes 11 and 12, and for Matric, attendance in both classes 9 and 10, is required, BSEB said. However, this 75% attendance requirement is separate for each class, and not combined.

In addition, BSEB explained that from the first day of class until the time of final exams, a pupil in Class 11 must have at least 75% attendance. Otherwise, he or she will not be permitted to take the Class 11 final examination.

The same criterion applies to students in Grade 9, failure to meet which will prevent them from taking the examination.

The board may waive deficits in both of these provisions up to a maximum of 15%, according to BSEB.

Under only exceptional medical circumstances, such as cancer, AIDS, tuberculosis, or similar severe illnesses requiring prolonged hospitalisation, will candidates with less than 60 percent attendance be considered for leniency.
