The annual Pandharpur Yatra to the famous Vithoba Temple at Pandharpur in Maharashtra is also famous as Pandharpur wari or ekadashi pandharpur wari and pandharpur ashadi ekadashi wari.

An annual pilgrimage (Yatra) of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj from the temple in Pune’s Alamdi to Pandharpur is known as Pandharpur Wari or Vari.

Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palhi begins on the auspicious day of Ashadhi Ekadashi that falls on Monday, June 4 from Dehu and reaches Pandharpur on July 11.

A Palki is carried out from the respective shrines which carry Paduka (Footprints) of notable saints like Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram in which millions of devotees participate.

During the festival, chants of “Dhyanba Mauli Tukaram” rang out although. After a rest on June 24, Monday the warkaris embark their journey to Pandharpur on Tuesday.

The participants of the yatra around 90 percent are farmers generally from Maharashtra. Beginning from Dehu phata and Alandi respectively. The processions will depart for Pandhurpur on Tuesday morning.

As per the history, the tradition of carrying paduka was started by Tukaram’s youngest son in 1685. In 1820 further changes were brought to the pilgrimage by Tukaram’s descendants and devotees of Dnyneshwar called Haibatravbaba Arphalkar.
