Panipat Rural is one of the 90 constituencies to go for polls for Haryana Legislative Assembly on October 21. Panipat Rural falls under Panipat District of Haryana. Panipat district was carved out from the Karnal district in 1989. Mahipal Dhanda is the current MLA of Panipat Rural.

In the 2014 Haryana Vidhan Sabha (Haryana Legislative Assembly) Elections, BJP candidate Mahipal Dhanda defeated Independent candidate Dhara Singh Rawal by more than 36 thousand votes.

Out of the 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana, 17 are reserved for Scheduled Castes as per the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008.
