On September 3, 1996, Park Soo-young was born on the island of Jeju and reared in Dobong, Seoul. She is the oldest of three sisters. Joy was inspired to become a singer after receiving praise for her rendition of ‘Flying Duck’ by Korean rock band Cherry Filter at a grade school festival when she was a child.
