In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself at her Rajendra Nagar residence under Kadamkuan police station in Patna after continuously watching Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide news on TV channels on Monday night.
The deceased, Ishika Kumari who was waiting for her class X examination results, was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) where doctors declared her dead.
According to a TOI report, her mother Gauri Devi told the police on Tuesday that Ishika was in depression for not performing well in her class X examination.
She said Ishika had been continuously watching the news of Sushant’s suicide on TV channels and social media platforms in her cellphone till late Monday night. Ishika’s mother even tried to convince her several times not to watch such news but she didn’t listen.
PMCH temporary police outpost in-charge Amit Kumar said her mother had gone for a stroll on the terrace when Ishika hanged herself inside the bedroom.
“She tied her mother’s sari to the ceiling fan to commit suicide. The mother along with neighbours brought Ishika down and rushed her to PMCH,” he said.
Kadamkuan police station SHO Nishikant Nishi also quoted Ishika’s mother as saying that the girl was continuously watching news about the Bollywood actor’s suicide. “Further investigation is on. A case of unnatural death has been registered on her mother’s statement,” he said.
The deceased lived with her mother and younger sister while her father Ranjan Kumar lived separately due to some family dispute. A post-mortem was conducted and then the body was given to the family.
