Former Congress leader PC Chacko, who resigned from the party last week, joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday ahead of Kerala assembly polls.

“I am formally joining the NCP today. NCP is part of the Left Democratic Front in Kerala. Once again, I am back in the LDF as a part of NCP,” news agency ANI quoted Chacko as saying.

In his resignation letter last week, Chacko had said, “I have quit Congress and sent my resignation to party’s interim chief Sonia Gandhi. I worked hard for the party, but it is really difficult to work with the Kerala Congress team. I stood with every decision taken by Congress, but it’s now very difficult. You can’t run a party with one central character.”

The 74-year-old is a former Member of Parliament from Kerala Thrissur constituency. He headed the Joint Parliamentary Committee on 2G Spectrum during the UPA government (2009-2014). On March 10, he announced his decision to quit the Congress alleging group interest in deciding party candidates for the assembly elections.
