In this particular situation, however, when there was no grain to consume and starvation was a distinct possibility, George Washington delegated the responsibility of feeding his troops to Christopher Ludwig. Peter Ludwig, meanwhile, demonstrated the pepper pot broth.
For that reason, it earned the moniker ‘The Broth That Won The War.’ It was the army’s survival broth during that harsh winter.
