After announcing the relaunch of Twitter Blue over the weekend, Twitter updated its terms to require users who wish to purchase the subscription to verify their phone number. If your phone number has not been verified, you will be prompted to do so when purchasing a subscription plan, according to the company.

Additionally, the company may prohibit users who have altered their handle (username), display name, or profile picture within the past week from purchasing a Twitter Blue subscription.

“Twitter accounts that haven’t been active in the past 30 days or that have changed their profile photo, display name, or username (aka @handle) in the past week may also be unable to sign up. “Subscribers will also require a verified phone number,” stated the updated terms of service.

This is in addition to the 90-day restriction on signing up for Twitter Blue for newly created accounts. Twitter stated that people who subscribe to the Twitter Blue plan may not see the checkmark immediately, as it intends to verify that the account complies with its verification requirements. In addition to the aforementioned conditions, the account must not exhibit “signs of being misleading or deceptive” and must not engage in “platform manipulation and spam.”

“All Twitter Blue features will be available immediately, with the exception of the blue checkmark, which may take some time to appear in order to ensure that the review of subscribed accounts meets all requirements,” Twitter wrote on the Twitter Blue FAQ page.

Last month, Musk mentioned that all accounts undergoing verification will be manually verified — which was exactly the process Twitter followed with legacy verification.

These measures are designed to prevent impersonation and spam. In November, when Elon Musk’s version of Twitter Blue with a verification mark debuted, a large number of accounts began to imitate brands, celebrities, and athletes. Musk was compelled to suspend the programme until measures were implemented to prevent a recurrence of the chaos.
