American star Justin Gatlin, Bolt’s biggest rival in the competition was the leader until the closing stages before the Jamaican started to pull away, and had to settle for the silver with an impressive 9.84 seconds. Andre de Grasse of Canada took bronze with a time of 9.91 seconds. This is the Jamaican’s third win after the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 Games in London. The star has now claimed that he will win the other three medals as he is aiming towards his target of repeating his 100m, 200m and 4x100m victories at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Games. When asked about his aims for next year’s Games, Bolt confirmed while speaking to rio2016.com, that his sights are set on an unprecedented ‘triple-triple’ with a new world record in the 200m his main aim before he retires in 2017.
“The 200m (world record) is definitely on the ‘to-do list’ for me, so I’m really focused on getting that done,” said Bolt, who holds the world records for the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. “It’s the Olympics, it’s the biggest stage, so the opposition will be tough and it will be extremely exciting, and the possibility of a world record is always there.” Bolt.
