PM Modi likely to address nation on New Year eve, may talk about demonetisation

In a bid to reach out to the people across the country after the completion of 50 days of the  much criticised demonetisation move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on New Year eve through public broadcaster Doordarshan, Hindustan Times reported.

According to media reports, Modi will talk about the support of the people for the demonetisation move and cash less economy.  He might also announce further steps, including sops to ease a nationwide cash crunch and a crackdown on properties registered in fake names.

Modi last addressed the nation on November 8 evening to announce the sudden move of demonetising the high value notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500.

As his self-chosen 50 day deadline for the completion of demonetisation will end on Thursday, the address will bear much significance.

In a melodramatic speech in Goa on November 13, Modi urged the people to gave him just 50 days for the completion of demonetisation. “If after December 30, there are shortcomings in my work or there are mistakes, I will be prepared for the punishment the country picks,” Modi said in the speech.
