Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sacrificed common people in ‘yagna’ against black money on Wednesday while criticising the demonetization move.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is performing a ‘yagna’ against black money and corruption. As animals are slaughtered in ‘yagnas’, similarly Prime Minister Modi has sacrificed the common man in ‘yagna’ against black money,” said the congress vice-president.

Gandhi was speaking at the 132nd foundation day of the Indian National Congress. He also highlighted the grand old party’s accomplishments and pledge towards the country.

“What is the Congress? It means listening to you, understanding others. It made us understand the meaning of freedom,” said Gandhi.

The new outbreak against ruling party came a day after the anti-demonetisation meeting, on which several opposition parties took part in. However, various parties including the Left, Janata Dal (United) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chose to sidestep themselves from the meeting.

While taking on the opposition for criticising demonetisation, PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday termed the move as a ‘safayi abhiyan’ and said it is aimed at curbing black money and corruption.

The PM said the country has suffered previously not just because of black money but also owing to leadership with ‘malicious heart,’ the PM said while addressing a parivartan rally in Congress-ruled Uttarakhand.
