Mulayam Singh Yadav is expected to address a rally for Gayatri Prajapati in Amethi constituency on Thursday, reported Indian Express. Gayatri Prajapati, the poll candidate has been accused of a gang rape.It is to be noted that the party claimed on Wednesday that Mulayam in physically unfit to address a public meeting which is to be organised at the Gayadeyi Degree College campus.
As directed by the apex court, the Lucknow police had lodged a case of gang-rape against Prajapati and six others on February 18. The victim said that she reached out to the supreme court after the police refused to register her complaint. Mulayam has so far held rallies only for brother Shivpal Yadav and younger daughter-in-law Aparna.
Prajapati invited a lot of criticism as his alleged involvement in the gang-rape comes to the surface.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in his speech referred to Prajapati as a “living example of the breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh”. Notably, the very next day, Prajapati had left the dais when Akhilesh arrived to address an election rally in Amethi.
Party sources said the CM did not want to share the stage with the minister and had asked the organisers of the rally to ensure he was not present when he spoke. He also did not make any reference to Prajapati during his speech. However, in the earlier stages of campaigning in Sultanpur, Akhilesh had, in Prajapati’s presence, appealed to people to support him during elections.
