Srinagar, April 2 (IANS) A private hospital was sealed by authorities in Pulwama district on Wednesday when officials found the hospital was doing “business as usual”.

The private hospital was sealed by Pulwama District Magistrate Raghav Langer when it was discovered that the hospital was performing elective surgeries and holding clinics for patients in violation of orders under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Such surgeries and conducting clinics without permission can result in the spread of coronavirus.

The police registered an FIR against the owners of the hospital, while the hospital has been acquired along with all its assets by the district administration.

Chief Medical Officer Pulwama and the Superintendent of government hospital Pulwama have been asked to explain as to how they had slept over such a serious matter by not taking action against the said hospital whose conduct can endanger the lives of thousands by spreading infection during the pandemic.

Action is also being initiated against those professionals who performed surgeries and held clinics during this period.
