Priyanka Gandhi takes charge of Uttar Pradesh along with Jyotiraditya Scindia

Just months ahead of General Elections 2019, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi appointed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia as AICC Genereal Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East and Uttar Pradesh West respectively.

In an official notice released on Wednesday, it was notified that “Honourable Congress president has appointed Shrimati Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as AICC General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East,” who will be taking charge with effect in the first week of February.

This is the first-ever official party assignment Priyanka has taken up. She has earlier managed election campaigns in Amethi and Rae Bareli parliamentary constituencies for her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi and her mother Sonia Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi will now be responsible for the party activities in the region that includes Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha seat, as well as Gorakhpur which is considered to be the stronghold of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The circular signed by General Secretary Ashok Gehlot further stated that senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia was appointed as AICC General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh West, while Ghulam Nabi Azad was shifted to oversee poll preparations in Haryana to make way for the young guns.

Among the other announcements made by the Congress was the appointment of KC Venugopal as as AICC General Secretary (organization) with immediate effect. Venugopal will continue with his assignment as AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka
