For the first time, the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi chaired the Party’s parliamentary meet in the absence of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi was in his form, took the position and addressed the CPP as Leader of CPP.

Gandhi also thanked his mother Sonia Gandhi for her relentless guidance in shaping his future. The CPP was attended by 26 MPs against 105 from both houses.

Congress leader P Chidambaram briefed the CPP on the demonetisation and the reason why Congress should now continue to fight for the rights of poor in Parliament.

The Parliamentary party meeting is normally chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Rahul chaired the meeting in the absence of his mother, who was recently admitted to a Delhi hospital with some illness.

Meanwhile, chaos continued in both Houses of Parliament. Congress, together with the rest of the opposition would raise the issue of the demonetisation drive again in the parliament with seeking a discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The opposition has been quite vocal in its protest of the demonetisation move and has held protests against the sudden decision of demonetisation by the Prime Minister. Rahul Gandhi, who led the opposition in the protest, would likely to become the face of the protest in the time to come.

Recently, both Gandhi and Congress’ official Twitter handles had been hacked on Wednesday and Thursday. The hacker had posted some of the most offensive allegations against the party. However, the Congress party had not raised the matter in the parliament although some Congress leaders alleged a deliberate political assassination behind the hacking.
