Rajasthan: Bus carrying “Baraatis” falls into river in Bundi, 24 killed

Kota: At least 25 people died and three others got injured as a private bus carrying people to wedding party fell into a river on Kota-Dausa highway in Bundi district today morning, police states.

The wedding party with 28 persons onboard head to Sawai Madhopur from Kota early morning when the driver apparently lost control of the bus while trying to cross a bridge near Papdi village under Lekhari police station limits, Lakheri Sub-Inspector Rajendra Kumar told news agency Press Trust of India over the phone.

The bus, subsequently, fell into Mej river from the bridge that had no wall or railing, Mr Kumar said.

“Thirteen people died on the spot while 10 others succumbed to their injuries on way to the hospital,” he added.

“Senior cops of Bundi district rushed to the spot,” Dehi Kheda SHO Vijay Singh

It needs to be mentioned here that bus accident cases have been on rise in India.

Recently another bus fell into a gorge in Kerala killing many people on 20 February. KRSTC driver has been taken into custody to investigate into the matter. Kerala Govt has initiated an investigation to find the root cause of the incident.

In the wake of Avinashi Bus accident leading to the death of 19 passengers, the government decided to frame guidelines for national permit trucks and lorries.
