Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the inaugural edition of Indian Premier League in 2008. The team was then led by legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne also featured players like Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, Sohail Tanveer and Shane Watson.
Along with Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals also served a two-year ban on account of its role in the 2013 match-fixing scandal. The Royals returned to the competition in the 2018 edition and went on to finish fourth in the league standings before being bundled out by Kolkata Knight Riders in the playoffs.
On the start of IPL 2018, RR dealt a sledgehammer blow as captain Steve Smith pulled out due to the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa earlier that year. Smith was replaced by Ajinkya Rahane as the captain of RR and will lead the Rajasthan Royals this year as well.
Smith’s return will be a big boost for the Royals this year while Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler will be leaving the tournament to join England’s pre-World Cup training camp in early May which may arise the doubts regarding the potency of the lineup.
