Jaipur: After the Supreme passed directions regarding eviction of more than a million families of Adivasis and forest dwellers from forestlands on February 13, the tribal groups of the state of Rajasthan have termed the SC order as provocative and threatening.

The court on February 13, had directed the Central government to evict tribals, who didn’t possess any rights under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006, before July 27.

A three Judge bench comprising of Justices, Arun Mishra, Navin Sinha and Indira Banerjee had given order to the Forest Survey of India (FSI) to come up with a satellite survey, placing details of encroachment positions and position after eviction and had given directions to twenty one states in the case.

The petitioners filled by NGOs including Wildlife First had demanded that those whose land claims over traditional forestlands were rejected should be evicted. The petition has questioned the validity of the Forest Rights Act, 2006.

Bharatiya Tribal party, which rose political temperatures after registering two seats in the recent state legislative elections has threatened the governments at the centre and state that if the matter remains unresolved, it will have an impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

From Rajasthan nearly 37,000 families claim to ancestral rights were rejected under the Act.

The Forest Rights Act, 2006 which was then passed by the parliament had given rights to the forest dwellers over forest lands and resources within the boundaries of the village.
