Raju Shetti demands special session of parliament to address the farmers’ issue

New Delhi: Raju alias Devappa Anna Shetti, founder of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna and the lone Member of Parliament who is a farmer leader, from the Hathkhanagale constituency in Kolhapur district Maharashtra; demands a special session of parliament to address the farmers issue immediately.

Nearly 855 farmers commit suicide in Maharashtra in just four months

“The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) is holding a protest of farmers in the national capital on 28th to 30th November and a large number of farmers from all across the country will join the massive rally,” said Shetti speaking with Newsd on Thursday at Gandhi Peace Foundation (GPF) Delhi.

“In August this year I have placed two Private Members’ bill in the parliament seeking a complete loan waiver and right to one and half times price for the agricultural food products as Minimum Support Price (MSP),” said Shetti.

Several farmers leaders were present at the GPF and explained the detailed plan of three-day long protest. “Farmers will reach Delhi on 28th November and assemble at Ramlila Maidan, and on 30th there will be a protest march to Boat House,” said Raju Shetti.

On 29th there will be a cultural program ‘an evening dedicated to Farmers’ and various cultural organisations will perform at Ramlila Maidan.

When asked about various central government laid farmers welfare schemes including ‘Fasal Bima Yojana’ and ‘Soil Health Card’, Shetti, said, “These are useless and unrealistic schemes far away from the reality to address the plight of farmers, and a total failure in stopping the farmer’s suicide.”

He said that it is important to give this message loud and clear to all the political parties before the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2019 and make it the topmost priority. The upcoming call of protest is an attempt to make our voice heard. We will keep up the fight unless our demands are not fulfilled.

Raju Shetti is a popular farmer leader from Western Maharashtra’s sugarcane belt and earlier this year in July led a statewide protest of Milk producers for a fair and competitive price in Maharashtra.
