Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Monday for raping two women followers. He was sentenced at a jail in Haryana’s Rohtak by Judge Jagdeep Singh. Singh flew down on government helicopter to conduct proceedings in prison-side court.
The CBI Court in its judgment has said that Ram Rahim Singh will be treated as any other ‘ordinary’ convict and will not be given special any special treatment, amenities or an attendant.
Just ahead of the verdict, the violence once again erupted in Haryana and the reports of two vehicles being torched has surfaced.
The state is on high alert and thousands of soldiers are guarding the prison. Besides, the army is on standby too to avoid any chaos. Notably, no civilians are being allowed within 10 km of the prison area.
More than a lakh of Ram Rahim’s followers gathered in Panchkula on Friday, and caused a violence that left 38 people dead and over 200 injured.
