Justice was finally delivered in the 15-year old Dera chief Ram Rahim rape case when the self-styled godman was sentenced to an imprisonment of 20 years. The courtroom was in Rohtak jail, where Rahim was residing since the verdict in the case came out last Friday.
“Judge announced 10 years of imprisonment and Rs 15 lakh fine each in two cases. Rs 14 lakh each to be paid to both victims,” SK Narwana, Ram Rahim Singh’s lawyer, told ANI.
“Total sentence is 20 (10-10) years, both sentences not consecutive but sentence of 376 and 506 would run concurrently,” Narwana added.
Followers of Dera Sacha Sauda in Punjab, Haryana and other cities, burned down gas stations and train stations and torched vehicles, besides attacking and injuring hundreds of other people. At least 38 people were killed in the violent clashes that were carried out by his followers.
Since the quantum of punishment was announced by the court, people are reacting to the decision of his imprisonment on Twitter.
