Ramadan 2026 Sehri Timings

Ramadan 2026 Sehri Timings: In India the holy month of Ramadan is set to begin on February 19, 2026. This comes after the new crescent moon was sighted. Ramadan is a very special time for Muslims. For around 30 days they fast every day from early morning till sunset. They do not eat or drink during these hours and spend more time in prayer and good deeds.

As per Islamic tradition the month starts only after the new crescent moon, also called hilal, is seen on the evening of the 29th day of Shaban. If the moon is visible after sunset then fasting begins the next morning at dawn.

Ramadan 2026 Dates: Country-Wise Suhoor and Iftar Timings

The announcement was made by the Shahi Imam of Chandni Chowk’s Fatehpuri Mosque, Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed. He confirmed that the moon had been sighted and that fasting would begin from February 19. The Naib Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Syed Shaban Bukhari, also said that the crescent moon was seen.

Why the Moon Sighting is Important?

Looking for the new moon is not just a rule. It is also a beautiful tradition. On the evening of moon sighting many families and friends gather outside. They look at the sky together and wait for the small silver curve to appear. When someone spots it people greet each other by saying “Ramadan Mubarak”. There is happiness in the air and a feeling that something sacred has started.

The sighting of the moon does more than just fix a date. It marks the start of a month filled with patience, kindness and prayer. People try to control their anger and desires. They also try to help the poor and become better human beings.

Meaning of Ramadan

Ramadan remembers the time nearly 1,400 years ago when Prophet Muhammad received the first verses of the Quran during Laylat al Qadr, also known as the Night of Power. This month is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and holds great importance.

How It is Observed?

During Ramadan Muslims wake up before sunrise to eat a meal called Suhoor. After that they do not eat or drink until sunset when they break their fast with Iftar. They focus on self control and spiritual cleaning of the heart. Many people offer special night prayers called Taraweeh in mosques. In the prayers the entire Quran is recited over the month.

The month ends with Eid ul Fitr. This is a happy festival where people gather for prayers, share food and meet relatives and friends.
