This year, all schools and institutions affiliated to CBSE have got an order by CBSE to celebrate the anniversary of Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2019: National Unity Day is also known as  Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a famous personality for uniting India observed on October 31. From 2014, the central government of India introduced to observe the birth anniversary of Patel every year as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to commemorate the great efforts of Iron Man of India.

He was the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India and played a most important role in uniting many Indian princely states to make an Indian federation.

This year, all schools and institutions affiliated to CBSE have got an order by CBSE to celebrate the anniversary of Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. In addition to the CBSE Board, theUniversity Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines to all educational institutions operating under its support to celebrate the National Day of Unity on October 31, 2019. 

In this celebration, we will observe various cultural and educational programs based on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2019 Theme

According to the CBSE notice 2019, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas will be celebrated as an opportunity to  “re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our country.” All educational institutions were asked to celebrate this day in accordance with the theme. 

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2019: Programmes & Events

As per CBSE, it orders all educational institutions to organize various programmes and events for the celebration and asked students to disseminate messages of solidarity and integrity. The Board will organize ‘Run for Unity’ event for students of class 11th and 12th, Prabhat Pheri for upper primary class students and Pledge Taking Ceremony for every student.

An essay writing competition and debate competitions according to the theme will also be organized and continue with the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat activities. The March Past by NCC/Scouts/NSS students is also planned for the celebration of National Unity Day. After the celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, educational institutions have been asked to submit detailed reports to the authorities.

Sardar Patel National Unity Award

CBSE Schools and Higher Education Institutions are also required to nominate or submit recommendations for the Sardar Patel National Unity Award. National Unity Award has been constituted by the Home Ministry to recognize “exemplary and outstanding individual contribution and tireless and selfless work done by citizens to promote the cause of national unity and integrity to strengthen the fabric of the country as one nation”. Nominations can be submitted online by logging onto the Home Ministry Portal at www.nationalunityawards.mha.gov.in.
